Employment, Contracts and Extensions

The ever ending cycle of someone who works from contract to contract is one of uncertanty. Near the end of each contract, you start to worry and concern builds weather or not you will be approved for an extension on your current contract or have to start looking for another one.

On my way home from work friday, I received the happy news in my hands that I will be extended until March 2007. This means that I have reliable, stable work for over 13 months now. I am so happy to have received that news, since I had added worries.

Work has a list of items that need to always be up to date in order to be offered a contract. Well, my medical evaluation had expired last year and nobody noticed until I applied for my contract extension. They were not going to consider my request unless I had a current medical. I almost hit the roof with a combination of worry about losing this job, anger over someone dropping the ball and not letting me know this had to be completed sooner and simple frustration that if I had of known I could have taken steps to fix this issue earlier.

With news that I have the extension, all the worry, anger and frustration is now wasted energy. I have the first part of my medical booked for later this month and off I go to the races. *smile* I know that I do not have any major health problems that should interfear with the job, but the rules have the medical expire every five years until I turn 40 years old.

Not much is going on this weekend. We have finally unpacked the last of our boxes from the move and filed the insurance claim for the few items that were broken or missing from the move. Over all, the move went far better than I would have expected. The cost of the move still stuns me, and make me glad that we were not the ones paying for it.

Enjoy!
